Read The Table Full of Good
Breakfast is one egg, a glass of milk and a slice of sourdough toast.
Yusuf says bismillah and begins. Then he starts asking where it all came from.
The egg leads to the hens. The milk leads to a dairy. The toast leads to a bakery, and the bakery to a mill, and the mill to a field. The olives came from Palestine.
What he cannot see so easily is everything that had to happen before it arrived there: seasons turning, living creatures, and patient, skilled hands.
With Teta beside him, Yusuf begins to understand Allah as Ar-Razzaq, the Provider.
Inspired by Surah Al-Maʿidah, The Table Full of Good moves gratitude gently outward.
Bismillah before eating and alhamdulillah afterwards mean something different once you have seen how far a breakfast travelled to reach you.
What had to happen before your breakfast reached you?
