Until one morning Amira and Yusuf ask where it actually begins.

The question takes them out to the flowers in the family garden, and then along to Mrs Jones and her hives. Soon one question becomes another.

How does the bee know which flowers to visit?
How does it tell the others what it found?
Who taught it what to do?

Inspired by Surah An-Nahl, The Bee’s Sweet Gift begins exactly where many good childhood conversations begin: with something ordinary suddenly becoming interesting.

Nectar, pollen, a dance that carries a message, and the busy work going on inside the hive. Little by little the sweetness on their toast becomes a story about pollination, teamwork and the remarkable work Allah has inspired in a very small creature.

The world has not changed by the end of the book.
They have simply learned to look at it more closely.

We did not want to hand a child the word gratitude and hope it stuck. So she gets a fig instead, off a branch bending under the weight of it, something she can hold and taste and thank Him for.

The word can come later. The feeling has to come first.

This is the spread we rewrote the most. Yusuf’s part had to remain real: he did plant it. And the growing had to remain something he could never do for himself. Both truths sit in one breath, so effort and trust never end up on opposite sides.

Then we stopped. No “because”. No “therefore”. No moral added afterwards. The moment had already said enough.
